That's a lot of steel.

I too, well until they could not find them and they plasma cut them instead, the Firefox parts. Then a couple weeks later while picking up another batch of steel they gave me the missing laser cut parts. I wish I had waited for them, boy were they nicely cut.

Well tonight was eventful. Not really. I spent five hours with a caliper, a straight edge, and a flashlight adjusting the plates to the same height and verifying a flush straight work surface. I clamped up some firebox pieces and it looks fantastic. Tomorrow my new saw comes in and I can start tacking up the frame.

Thanks Weldun. Hey what did you use for your removable expanded metal retainers. The welded on nuts. Did you tap the welded on pieces?

Thanks Rodcrafter. It will definitely come in handy. I am going to clamp up a door with 45s and see how flat it comes out.

Luckily I have them at home, otherwise losing 2 days to the holiday until Airgas opens would be a crying shame.

Well Dang, if the cookers come out half as nice as the table then your gonna have two stellar rigs.

Nice work !!

I’m feeling tempted to build one of those tables. I think I would use 1/2” flat bar for the slats.

That’s what I used. 1/2” flat bar for the top, 2x4 for top rails and 2x2 everything else.

Not to deviate from your Smoker and as others have commented that is a nice table...
What was the width of the plate you used for you surface and the spacing you used between the plates...
Can you include a link to this table design to get some of the questions which will come to mind later

I can throw something together. Quick answer is 6” x 1/2” flat stock 1.5” spacing.

Question for all those who have built a GF Smoker. Do you lock the doors on with the hinges or weld the hinges on so you can remove the doors if need be?
