Double pan and fire box design

Post by brockmanes1 » March 28th, 2018, 9:23 pm

I am trying to decide on a gravity feed design. I’ve been seeing a lot on double pan but can’t seem to see the difference from a normal GF. Could someone explain?
Then my second question is,could someone send a link on an old post or give demensionson for what is needed for the charcoal plate to chute gap and chute size for good fire? And this is not going to be a large smoker. From what I have read it is 2-4in. Any help would be great. Thank you!

Double Pan refers to the size of the smoker. You can fit two “hotel pans” side by side on each rack of the double pan. Good luck!

Oh I don’t want to build one that big. I m thinking something similar to a mini. I just need to learn more on the firebox and chute setup

There isn't a gravity feed calculator out there like you see for the conventional and reverse flow smokers. You're best source would be to order up the plans for the mini and make any modifications from there. I'm not a 'follow the instructions' kind of guy and I found them invaluable when I built mine.

Yes, the plans are the way to go! They are proven and that saves a lot of time and money.

Yep, I'll second the plans route. Makes building one a breeze. And if you want to go one size up on the mini there is a slightly bigger one too. Just not sure if that one has the cut files yet though.

I bought the plans for the mini. Does anyone know what temperature range I will get from this smoker min/max?

Ambient to 350* is easy.
