Congratulations.... that'll be a fine smoker.
Keep us posted on progress with pictures and eventually the mandatory Q-view.

If I am measuring correctly it is enough to almost make 4 mini fire boxes....

Im always looking for a deal....while cruising the good old Craigslist this morning I came across a steel fabricator going out of business. His price on sheets.... 0.25 per pound. I’m picking up some 1/4 for 200 less then retail. My question to you all is on the thinner stuff. I am obviously building the Mini GF and I know the plans call for 16G. This guy had some 14G at a killer deal and I didn’t know if that was too thin for at least the interior walls?

14ga is thicker than 16ga. Go git it! It'll be a little heavier, that's all.

My double pan GF has 1/8" skins. The skins are a lot harder to handle & cut, but a bunch easier to weld up (trade-offs, dontcha know....)

There I go showing how much I don’t know. That’s great. Looks like I’ll skin the whole thing in it.

Get the 14 ga, it welds better, my Mini HD has 11 ga tubing and 14 ga sheeting, it's a tank but it weld easier for the life long beginner!

I actually got a chance to get some work done today. Went ahead and got my firebox cut out

Then tacked it all up

I had my Hobart Handler 140 so I’ll finish it out when I get home with the old Lincoln Buzzbox.
Ordered all my extras from the guys at smoker builder, got the rest of my steel ready for pickup Thursday, and set up a new account with a local weld shop which should save me some money on gas. Btw I got all this done well at the Fire Station today....which technically means I was being paid to build a smoker....

I meant to ask. Do you guys weld inside and out side of fire box? I beveled both sides before I though to ask.....[emoji51].....I sometimes do then ask....

Put as much weld as you can on it. Inside and out more the better, within reason.

If you would like information about building your own heatermeter or having someone build one for you, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Remember that this needs to be airtight, not just stuck together.

:welder: This is where it gets interesting. Putting all those bits of steel together in a strategic order so it resembles a smoker.... :D
