What I do is light from the bottom with a torch then use a BBQ Dragon to get it up to temp and then raise it about 10 degrees hotter. Then let the BBQ Guru take over. I get mine up to temp in about 15-20 minutes with it burning with light blue smoke or near clear.
Looks at a piece of meat and wonders how many ways can I smoke that.

I did notice that mine heats up faster using briquets instead of lump, so that will help your cause too.
