Double pan in Iowa

Post by fullbore » September 20th, 2017, 8:40 pm

Well let the fun begin, starting the double pan tonight. Had about an hour to work on it after supper. (FYI) Before everyone says the holes on the wrong side I'm moving the inlet next to the firebox door with a 90deg elbow.

That will work with the 90 deg bend. The rest of it is looking good.

Yeah I was going to run the valve on the fire box door, but have had heard stories of it blowing ash in the cook chamber, either way I'm thinking about running the valve and guru below it similar to karate doc did.

I run DigiQ's on my WSM's for competitions now and love um, I'm just to the point I like to sleep and managing multiple cookers/fires isn't for me, I don't have the staying up and partying in me all the time like I used to. I'm going to go out on a limb and get the new CyberQ cloud and the Pitbull fan for the Gravity feed. Ill do all my proteins on the GF expect chicken ill pry stick to the drum for that still... Ill keep the updates as the come available.

Got the chute tacked up and the removeable fire grate in, now I need to order the insulation, frame tubing and sheet steel. Anyone use pickled and oiled sheeting my supplier sells it to me at the same cost as hot rolled plate.

Very nice parts, if this was mine I would heat and bend the handle on the fire grate. I did that on mine and I am really glad I did. It is so you can get a grab on it the next time you go to use it so you can drop the coals out. The charcoal sorta drags on the grate so just using the tips of my fingers wasn't easy.

Yeah I thought of that after the runners were welded in, I'm going to revise the grate I think to more of a t handle design and to bend it down like you said.

Those prices sound pretty fair to me. It seems close to the price that we pay down here in Lower Alabama.

Flipped up a 10ga ash pan quick and got the majority of it welded off. Got the chute left. I might tackle that tomorrow?

That is looking good. Just a reminder to leave out the top post by the chute when building the frame to enable you to wrangle that whole lot into the frame. Weld them back in after you have the chute/firebox/difusser plate installed and square.

Looks awesome dude & AJ has given you a really good tip, so many people don't read the plan properly & weld that top piece on, makes it impossible to install to FB assembly. :kewl:

That's some pretty nice prices for the steel, almost comparable to here, but the expanded piece price just isn't fair, I had to pay $300AUD for the sheet I got. :hissy:

Yes thanks for the tips, the prints are fairly detailed really if ya take a few moments to just look them over and study them it's simple really. I'm the productions manager at a 75 person weld shop/machine shop so it all kinda works out. Here's a picture of my last project it's a shake out table for a foundry
