Question about exterior panel on front(FB)

Post by Heatermeter builder » December 27th, 2017, 10:53 pm

I have question that I'm not sure how to proceed. The front exterior panel on the firebox, can this be welded or should it be screwed on.

I see some people screwing theirs on. I will be adding a 6x6 inch cutout for a place to put my controller and that will be wired with a Cat5 cable. I guess, if I ever needed to replace the Cat5 cable it would make it much easier. But I just want to go the easiest route and weld it on.

I like the idea, so you will frame in an area on the front and make that removable? Please let me know what you do and picture would be great!

I would weld it also but there was a build on here a while back where the guy used screws to attach all of the panels. He used a countersink bit and I believe it was a dome head screw and it turned out very nice.

I haven’t done it, or I would send a picture. But as long as you cover it on keep it out of the weather it will last a very long time. At which time you may not even be the one doing it unless you’re like me and keep almost every one you make.
