When I pulled the cook chamber wraper out of the box it was upside down. I am not 100 % sure how i did it. But i set it on my boot so it would not scratch the metal on the concrete. Then layed it over on to the cooker....... well you guessed it I was stuck. Boot pinned to the floor and the top is away from me with no leverage to get it back up right. Thank goodness for steel toe boots. Some how i was able to get ahold of the wraper flip it and it never touched the floor..... that was way more work the then it should have been. Some times i do it the hard way... can't wait for the day when i learn the easy way

Be interesting to see how many "parts" are left over after the build. I know I always seem to have a few over when I assemble something for the first time

How was the fixed grate for the coal shoot? Is it easy to restart the existing coals?

The grate slides in and out. Don't know yet picked up 2 extra days this week at work. So it's going to be another week before it's done

Got all 12 door corners welled up and looking great. Then turned my attention to the air inlet pipe that feeds the firebox with air. After pushing it back to the front of the cooker I was able to get about 1/8 inch lip all the way around. I switched over to the tig torch grabbed a 1/8 inch filler rod and filled the gap. I did this lying on my side, witch was a lot harder then I thought it was gong to be. Thinking back I wish I would have pushed it out into the fire box and melted it back with the tig torch. I Think it would have look better. Either way Got a little more done on the smoker. Hopping tomorrow I will get all the doors mounted.

I am not the fastest at putting stuff togeather. I do a lot of checking and rechecking before I weld it up. Most of the days when I was Building this smoker only put in about 4 to 5 hours.

If there was 2 guys working on this that were good, it would go togeather very fast

2 of the 3 doors mounted and the roof corners welded up

Welded the firebox door on and it turned out pretty good, May hit it with a sanding disk to smooth it a little

This is the top hopper door 3 of the 4 sides are welded up tight. It just doesn't look that great. The weld is still below the edge so it would be super easy to run over it again with more weld then grind it down. I still may but doesn't look like its going to happen today.

Thinking for the back about taking the tig torch, and see what I can do. Thinking it would be much easer and a lot less mess then the mig.

So the only real big check mark to knock off the build list is installing the cook chamber door. then fit up some of the door latches. Install the chimney cap,

And its ready for paint. I got a couple little mods I am going to make before it goes for paint. so its going to be another week or so before that happens.

I presume that you take out the he screws and weld the holes up after?

Between the weather work and playing in the snow its been a little over a week since I put some time in on the gravity feed. Friday I figured out how to get it outside and placed on its side so I could install the cook chamber door. Then I did my first mod to the smoker Fork tubes so I can carry it with the tractor.

So today I figured I better finish this beast, I finished welding everything that needed welded up. When installing the push or pull handle I got to thinking time to ad some more of my own touches to it. 9 dollars later I had a new pics of pipe and a new handle was made. I like the look of my new handle better then the end caps that come with the kit.

Looking ahead at next week, as long as its not raining I am hoping to drop this smoker off at the power coat shop Tuesday sometime. What color would you make your smoker.

I am thinking Bright Fire Engine Red
Or dark Blue.

Any thought, NO Pink or yellow or black. I want it to stand out.

Should stand out pretty well in Fire Engine Red.

Maybe with a yellow stripe in the middle with "Caution – Smoking in Progress"

I say a copper color. Add in metal flake for the extra stand out effect

How many hours you figure you got in it?

Personally, I like black just because it hides all the dirt/soot and is super easy to repaint an area if you ever decide to add a bracket or fix a bad weld. To each their own tho...red is definitely cool.
