New project help

Post by Shawnt » February 18th, 2013, 6:02 pm

Hello Everyone. Well I haven't checked in for some time but its time to attempt the second smoker. I'm going to try and attack some pics of the first finished smoker.

So here is what I'm planning to build. I just picked up another 80 gallon compressor tank and unlike the first horizontal smoker I want to build this new smoker vertical. Now I have no idea how to build a vertical smoker from an 80 gallon tank! Are they built with some kind of reverse flow system. Should I build a side fire box or incorporate it in the tank? Should I just build a horizontal smoker?

I left my first smoker at the cottage and I'm jonesing for some smoke!!!!! I need a smoker for home. Now another question I keep asking myself is ,do I need a smoker this big? Should I cut it down some? Anyway I'm excited to get started and I'm going to need some help with this design. Any help would be great. Thanks!

You can make an upright out of the tank. You can make it an offset with a side firebox, or make the fire box in the tank with a baffle plate. Lots of options. You definitely need a second and maybe even a third! :D

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Do you need one that big??

Thats a tough call.

From me, .... Why yes, of course, the bigger the better.

From reality.... How much do you usually cook , is the big question.

You could build a round vertical backwoods style rig. I have never seen a round one. Backwoods style that is.
They have fire inthe bottom. plate and transfeere tubes that take the smoke to the top and the stack leaves the bottom.
In a seance, its a reverse flow. Sorta.

Really? Can a smoker be too big? There is your answer....

If you can't fix it by sheer force or cursing......then it can't be fixed.....
