build #2, vertical cabinet

here is another find from work. going to help a friend build a vertical cabinet.

24x26.2x48". i have been reading around here on these cabinets. sounds like they run similar to a uds...

can i use the feldon cacl for figuring firebox size. i was going to go with the recommended 1/3 cc for the fb size. most likely will burn 100% wood.

since it is a vertical, the cc is chimney volume and i dont need a lot of stack? the door has a flange under it, so it should be able to seal up tight with the thin flat fire rope gasket. is it better to use the recommended(for rf cookers) air inlet sizes or does the vertical construction change that way that operates?

You'll want a 1" gate valve in the bottom to regulate your draft air accurately. It won't take much air to operate but you need the gate valve to set it very accurately.

I don't think the RF pit calc applies to this type cooker. :D

Eli is a good looking machine, what were the dimensions? you think a 1" inlet will be enough on this size CC burning only wood?

A wood-only fire should take a larger air inlet so put in 2 - 1" inlets - 1 that you can cap and the other with the gate valve in it. You'll have double the range that way.

If I remember right Eli was about 24 deep - 32 wide and about 63 tall with casters…. :D
