Insulated upright

Post by wolfmann » January 13th, 2015, 12:02 am

Here are a couple of pictures of my last build. It is a upright smoker inside dimensions are 24" by 24" with 3 shelf's spaced at 7".
Thee fire box is separated by a 1/4" plate that has a 1/2" slot all around.
I just cooked on it for the first time and was able to hold 250 degree for over 10 hours and this was in 15 plus mile an hour wind with a windchill at 28 degrees. I also added two separator plates to the basket in the firebox. This is to make the fire burn a little at the time and not light up the whole basket.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

PD, been busy as all get out. Building a new house takes up a bit of my time.

I did cook on it before the paint to try it out and in freezing cold wind I was able to hold 248 degree for over 10 hours. Cooked two pork butts and they came out great.
It got warm enough to paint so here is the finished smoker.

Very nice smoker! Question though... Could you explain or show (pics ARE worth a 1000 words!) the heat transfer from your firebox to the CC? In one of the pics it looks as if your "baffle" between the CC & FB has a gap around it to allow heat/smoke to rise to your food. Is this the case? I am very interested in this part of the design. THANKS!
