flat top grill

Hey guys fixing to start a new grill I'm thinking a half grate and half flattop charcoal grill what kind of metal should I use for the flattop part

Could you use 1/4 mild steel plate and just season it?

^^^^ I'm with Mike I would think 1/4 to 3/8th would be good then season it.

So something like 1/4 hot rolled steel

On a flat grill plate thicker is better. Most commercial ones are 3/4" thick. I think 3/4" is a little overkill for this application but I would go 3/8" or even 1/2". season it really well
