No rhyme or reason, just something I picked up years ago........it's stuck with me.

Final coat of red, used every bit of the quart of red paint to put two coats on this bad boy.

Tomorrow after church, I will cover the red and spray the black on, then it's reassembly time.

Looks very fast! Lol. :kewl:

I know what you mean about names, mine comes from a childhood TV show in Australia called Mr Squiggle, he had a pencil for a nose & used to draw lots of cool kids stuff. I used it on a forum a number of years ago & now it's just the name I use for every forum.

You know T, I never, ever even thought of the red making ppl think I'm an Alabama fan........lol.............honestly, it couldn't be any farther from that! I really couldn't care less about football, but my son is an avid fan, so I have become a fan as well. BUT......much to your dismay I must say I am a War Eagle fan by proxy I guess, as well as a Saints fan. Honestly I had thought for a while about painting it black and putting a big fleur de lis across it, for my son, I bet he'd like that, but that was before dad died. The red is for him.

I'm not big on football either and I kind of figured you'd be an LSU fan if you were. I just threw in the ol' Roll Tide because that's all anybody around here ever says. My son is also an Auburn fan (his gramps went there) so we're sort of outcasts also. The smoker turned out nice and I didn't know your dad but I'm sure he'd be proud. I have looked over your build several times and it still amazes me with all of the unique designs that you came up with. I know it'll be in your family for years to come and I'm looking forward to hearing how that turkey turns out for your wife.

Thanks man!

Black is done!! One happy dude. Remember it is on jacks, so it is not this high actually.

Image

Started installing everything yesterday and today.

Exhaust actuators. Closed.........

Image

Open......

Image

Vertical temp gauge......

Image

Door handle......

Image

Today I got the spring handles on, although I don't have them finalized. I had originally planned on putting a 1/2" washer on the bottom, but they just looked goofy. I am going to cut some pieces of 1/2" sch80 pipe and paint them black, and use those on the bottom instead of the washers. The shelf is on in this pic, as well as the expanded metal in the lower rack area.

Image

Here I am starting to lay out the table. I have had a piece of aluminum diamond plate laying in the back yard for a long time, it was 10" wide and 10' long. I decided to finally use it for something, and instead of making the table out of expanded metal, opted to make it out of this piece of aluminum. I will clean it up and polish it real good. It has a cutout for a sauce bowl; my youngest son came up with the idea, and I ran with it. There is a removable piece (the semi-round hole) that will be held on by magnets; when I want to use the sauce bowl, I will simply remove the cutout and put the bowl in the spot. The bowl will be recessed into the table.

Image

Hoping to clean it out this week, and Friday have a gang of folks over to help move it into its final resting place. Told the wife to thaw out the turkey!!

I am very proud, especially now that I've got the most important part on.

I introduce you guys to Mynez (pronounced my-nez). Dunno why, but dad never said 'mayonnaise'.......it was always 'mynez'. Must've been the Cajun in him or something. Anyway, it fits for me.

Image

I think that'd be a good avatar, what about you guys?

Awesome tribute! I love it when a name has a story. Obviously your dad was very influential in your life. The fact he was a Cajun tells me all I need to know! MYNEZ will live forever!!! And it's RED!!!
