Pete, I have the same Masterbuilt XL propane smoker and cannot get it to behave. My flame is yellow, not blue, my 8" cast iron pan catches the wood chunks on fire, and the heat goes up and down like crazy. What did you do to master the temps? The smoke? and keep the flame in the blue zone instead of burning yellow? Mine doesn't have an air adjustment valve. Did you replace your burner? I'm at my wits end, but love the size. I've even thought about converting it to cabinet style stick burner by building an insulated box around it, and putting a water pan/plate underneath and building a cook chamber for it to sit on. Your comments/thoughts/insights/knowledge shared would be awesome!

Check the burner tube for blockages . Critters can get in there and lay eggs. the burners can get corrosion blocking the openings as well. Try elevating the wood pan to help it smolder . You can also try loosely covering the wood in aluminum foil .

I got many years of bbq goodness out of mine.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?
