Looking for springs and caps for 5/8 handle

Post by wakeboarder141 » November 11th, 2013, 1:28 pm

I am working on handles for my vertical smoker build. I have some 5/8" rod I want to bend into handles. I have found a number of 5/8 opening springs, but I can't seem to find caps to hold the spring on the 5/8" rod. Any help would be appreciated!

I always just weld mine on, but I know what caps your talking about. Can you weld them? I would look at a boat trailer parts place that large of caps are what are used on the rollers on boat trailers.

I could weld them. I just assumed that the springs needed to be free to rotate around the rod. Do you just tack them at the top and bottom when you weld them?

I put a pretty good weld on the end of them, actually almost completely around it. It doesn't need to rotate your hand will do that as you open the door.
