Need some help with trailer for 250 gallon offset

Hey all, I've learned a lot from reading this forum but still have a few questions I'd love some input before I start my trailer build for my 250 gallon traditional offset next week. The tank is about 7' 6" and it has a 24" firebox, no warming cabinet. I've been keeping an eye on Craigslist but haven't found anything that would work for me so I'm planning on building the trailer myself but I'm a bit nervous since I don't have much experience building or towing trailers. I'm planning on using 2"x3" sq. tubing and a 2000lb axel kit. My questions is:

Do I need to center the smoker on the trailer or can I get away with offsetting it to one side and trying to add some weight to the other side to counterbalance? I was assuming a 48" frame and with a 30" diameter tank it would be a bit of a reach to access the smoker if it were centered on the fame. I'm also considering reducing the width of the frame to better fit the tank but am not sure how narrow I could go without having stability issues.

I finally decided on the 2x3 and the design of it made it easy to square things up and design it just big enough to sit on the axle perfectly.

I would say it is easy to get more weight on the axle than to get it off. I mean if you start with a 2000# axle then you move the weight off center it is easy to overload the axle or at least the springs. I get 3500# axles for most things. Then never worry about it.
