New Guy Material Question

Post by mattwheaton » December 27th, 2012, 9:22 am

Hello all, Matt here from Fort Gibson, Ok. Ive got some 12 X 12 X 1/4" X 6" square tubing. This will be my first smoker build. I don't need much, just enough for a brisket every now and then.

Question is; Am I waisting my time with that size of tube? It was free so i'm not out either way.

Yes, it is 6 ft. long. I concerned that it may be too small. Its certainly doable based on what I saw on the calculator.

The size of your material will do fine for what your wanting to cook. Brisket is my favorite, it will be a bit tight but would work. I'm a bit of a nut, I think everything should be big. But I'm from Texas. The size you talking, your wife will let you bring it home, mine won't unless it stays on a trailer, so I can take it back to the shop. I say go for it, you can always build bigger after words.

No such thing as too small, or too big for that matter! If its too big, just cook more

Without heading out into the depths of the coldness. I'm gonna guess that they are 6" dial x maybe 24" long. But they are filled with some type of dry desicate to act as the air dryer.

I'm stuck if to unload them or hang on to um and make a way cool mini RF.

Are they even big enough for what ur wanting to do?

Prolly not. I'm looking for about a 12-18" x 30". I'm hoping I can luck into something one of these days.
That size would make a cool mini.
