My uncle worked at a local sawmill and used to bring me truckloads of hickory............he changed jobs so now I'm out of luck. I ordered some of the Weber brand apple chunks awhile back and really liked them alot. I tried mesquite and didn't care for it at all but that's just me. I am surrounded by pecan trees so getting that wood is no problem. I like it for certain things. I want to try some maple.
It sure is nice to have those kinda hookups for wood. I have tons of hickory and oak but no access to pecan. I have traded for it in the past. One day I will find a good place to get it nearby

Hey guys, I've used most of the common woods... oak, hickory, apple, maple, pecan, but since I tried Peach I kinda like it with my pork . Although I don't think you can go wrong with a good oak base for any meat. Found a Peach orchard close by that was willing to let me come by and remove the "dead wood" from their place....does wind damaged limbs qualify as "dead wood"
Just brought back a little each of Peach, Apricot, Walnut and Hickory. More Peach and Walnut on the way when I go back in Feb. Hey Frank - Wanna trade some peach for some apple? - BTW - what's the peach/apple exchange rate...? (I crack myself up)

Ok, so I discovered I don't like hedge wood. don't like the smell of it and it is too hard to keep the smoker temp down. I was using it with some hickory. 1/4 stick of it and 3- 1/4 sticks of hickory. got the air inlets closed nearly off and cant get below 245*F. just gotta wait till it burns off and then DON'T DO THAT AGAIN LOL.
Good safety tip Egon! Don't cross the streams and no hedgewood...
