Sugar Maple vs Silver Maple

My Bro. inlaw has a large Maple he is taking down in a week. Not sure if it is sugar or silver. I am thinking it is silver but need to check leaves. I can have as much as I want to haul away. Can I use either for a smoker? I will definatly use it for the fire pit in the evenings, but wasn't sure about smoking with it. (stick burner) What meat is good with maple?

Both will work for smoking, but sugar is better
