Diesel is still flammable as are the solids that have dropped out of solution and become embedded in the tank pores. If it were me, I would follow the same procedure as a propane tank. It's your call...
I understand that diesel is flammable, and I do want to be cautious. I am just looking for alternative options besides filling the entire tank with water and expelling 150 gallons of water in my yard. I heard dry ice in the bottom with a little water will create CO2 gas which is denser than air so in theory if I put enough dry ice in it to create CO2, once I see CO2 vapor coming out of the topmost opening there should be no oxygen left in the tank to create an explosive mixture. Has anyone tried this method? It seems to be a much cleaner alternative. I want to lean on someone else who has done this before. Any other options that I have not mentioned?
