One-armed BBQ with my lil-man

Post by cypertj » July 20th, 2013, 12:23 am

A little over a month ago I was involved in a motorcycle accident while on my way home from work. Long story short, I'm in a splint/cast on my right arm for about 3 months. Right now I'm rocking 2 titanium plates, 10 screws, and 3 pins.

I decided it was time for some smoking so I grabbed a 5 pound butt and a 3 pound chuck roast to throw on the smoker in the morning.

I enlisted a little help.

Here's what we're working with. Injected the butt with a mixture of apple juice, wooster sauce, and hog waller. Then rubbed it with more hog waller. Injected the chuckie with some full of bull beef injection and rubbed with a SPOG mixture.

Everything is chilling in the fridge and I'll update with some more pics tomorrow. So glad I had my son to help me otherwise this would not have happened.

Sorry about the accident but it looks like you're turning lemons into lemonade to me! :kewl:

It also looks like your turning your helper into a smoking nut like the rest of us. Look at the eyes in the last pic, that's great!

This weekend is the in-laws 29th wedding anniversary and they took off for the weekend so my wife, kids, and I are staying at their place this weekend with my sister in-law who has cerebral palsy. Here's my FIL's pit getting warmed up.

Image

When I checked his pit out yesterday I noticed his thermo was stuck on 450. I tried to clean it up and see if it would start working but didn't have any luck, so I hooked him up with one of the Tel-trus from my project since it's still on hold. His pit is holding 250 like a boss.

Loaded it up at 8:00, and had coffee with my son by the pit this morning. He's hanging in there for the entire cook.

Finished product. I finished the chuckie off kinda like burnt ends, and pulled the butt after the bone pulled loose.

Hate to hear of the injury, but it looks like you got a excellent smoker's assistant outta the deal. :kewl:

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.
