Yep Diggerg, I think they would use Apple Juice and not actual cider. And certainly not apple cider vinegar.
Just remember the Americans seem to like things very sweet. So they tend to use lots of sugar and sweet ingredients. You might have to play with your mix to get how you like the taste.

And here I'm an apple cider vinegar guy...I use it to cut my BBQ sauces when I'm using it to baste and marinade too. It adds a tangy flavor that I like.
