Rock salt instead of kosher salt?

We love to cook and we love to hear what others are cooking. With pics of course!

Rock salt instead of kosher salt?

Post by Venil » August 17th, 2020, 6:42 am

I won't have enough kosher salt left for tomorrow's brisket, and couldn't find any at the shops. Bought a bag of rock salt but now I don't know if that's any good to use.
Is it?
Thanks,

Personally... I don't think I would. Rock salt is generally unrefined, i.e. contains foreign material that I don't want in my food.

No, no, no! Rock salt is definitely NOT what you want. Perfect for your sidewalk or homemade ice cream but definitely not on a brisket. It just doesn’t break down to well and you will end up with big bites of just salt.

Regulator table salt is fine, just cut your amount by half as compared to kosher.
