i got a pyrex right now but its in rough shape and its not instant as advertised,i dont like standing there with the door open waiting to get a reading,are the ones mentioned above fast?

around 5-7 seconds probably gets you are pretty good look at the temp. I'd say at 10 seconds the number is fairly locked. I might be of poor memory here but I really can't say that I have timed a temp check. A lot of times I will shove the thermapen into a hunk of meat and do some rearranging with other pieces for a few moments and I always have a steady number on the one I am checking.

The black instant read Thermapen seems to be about 3 to 4 seconds and accurate...it's well worth the $80 and feel a must have....

I would say my Taylor also reads in 3 to 4 seconds (prolly closer to 4) but it appears to be accurate and repeatable.

I got curious so I did a few actual timed runs. 4 seconds is a reproducable performance

I found several models of the Taylor instant read thermometers, different prices. What is the model number of the recommended Taylor?
