I recently bought a $25 Taylor instant read with auto shut-off that I like real well. You can spend more though.... :D

I use thermoworks super fast Thermapen. I love it, but they are proud of em!

:yth: I like my thermapen but I believe it set me back about $79

If it can't be smoked .... try frying it. It that don't work, it's probably best just left alone

around 5-7 seconds probably gets you are pretty good look at the temp. I'd say at 10 seconds the number is fairly locked. I might be of poor memory here but I really can't say that I have timed a temp check. A lot of times I will shove the thermapen into a hunk of meat and do some rearranging with other pieces for a few moments and I always have a steady number on the one I am checking.

The black instant read Thermapen seems to be about 3 to 4 seconds and accurate...it's well worth the $80 and feel a must have....

I would say my Taylor also reads in 3 to 4 seconds (prolly closer to 4) but it appears to be accurate and repeatable. :D

:yth:

I got curious so I did a few actual timed runs. 4 seconds is a reproducable performance

My thermapens run in 3 - 4 seconds. I love em!

I found several models of the Taylor instant read thermometers, different prices. What is the model number of the recommended Taylor?
