Maybe you were going to do this anyway but if it were me I would donate it to my church - they're probably already a 501C non-profit entity anyway

so they can…..

give you a receipt
pound the pavement selling the tickets
handle the raffle money and make the donation to the family
deliver the rig
and take credit for for all their efforts

besides, it frees up more time for you to build more cookers (or "Q") :D

Rick is right. You want to align yourself with a non profit and has a 501C-3.
You may also want to check your local laws on raffles. I know where I live you have to get a permit from the county and it''s a real pain in the butt.

You will hafta pay income tax on the money you raise unless you do what rick suggests. Gambling laws are a pain also... Make site you wood the "raffle" correctly

I wonder what ever happened to this plan? You guys are right on about the 501c-3 status. In New Jersey, you can't even think raffle without licenses and permits and that 501 C-3. Stinks that it is there because of all scams in place. You can't just go do something great for people without red tape

Make no mistake, there ain't no powder in this Puff ! And... I'm not really a crazy person but I play one in real life

The pit building is in progress winner to be chosen just after the first of the year. With some of the replies I didn't think it was wanted on here

It is by all means wanted here.
I just so happened to have married a CPA so I know just enough about that stuff to be dangerous.
Just don't want a fellow smokerbuilder getting in trouble.
I think we all believe that no good deed goes unpunished so I thought it was my place to warn you.
just my honest opinion. :)

I appreciate it but il pay the taxes on it. I just want to help. Today in our society there is always plenty reasons to not do something. I plan to make a difference in at least a few people's life. Thanks for the heads up

I'm always up for a raffle.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.
