What's Cookin' for the 4th?

Post by Pete Mazz » June 29th, 2015, 5:58 am

What's everybody doing for the upcoming holiday? I've bee jonesing to smoke some goodies. I'm really hankering for some brisket and burnt ends. ABTs are a definite as well. Ribs and chicken always seem to find their way onto the smoker too. I've also got to do a pork shoulder a friend gave me to make him some pulled pork. I'm making a trip to Rest Depot sometime this week to see what they have. This is gonna be bad. Going to RD with thoughts (and drool) of wanting to smoke everything that walked, flew, swam or crawled. :wsm:

So what is everybody else planning?

I'm traveling to Texas to see family for the holiday, but Monday following I'm smoking 2 briskets. One for the small group from church and one for me and the Mrs. But I always get some ribs from https://www.facebook.com/pages/Country- ... 2622649358 It is one of those places that doesn't have a menu they only sell "Q" and only a few types of that a couple of sides and deserts. The ribs are so good I never had anything else, eaten there many times, have them on my phone and I live 1100 miles from there. It is between Kilgore and Tyler Texas.

I'll still be building my cooker. I'm on call for the weekend so there won't be too much traveling or celebrating. That's ok with me though...we'll make up for it the following weekend. :P

Were heading to Northern MN for 7 days of complete solitude and a ton of fishing. The best part is even cell phones don't work up there. Won't be doing any Q'ing but lost of relaxing.

Hoping to get the boat in the water finally. Decided to pull the 7kw generator out of the bottom. Makes it so much simpler to get to the serviceable parts of the engines and we've used it once...every year we going fishing and the cheapest fish in the last 6 years has be around $1250.00 a pound....winter storage, spring prep, fuel, insurance and finally bait... Should save a ton of money and just eat the bait.

RC....remember, this is not like fishing in the keys...this is the key hole! Although, we did throw out a baby 46" mako who proceeded to chomp down on anything in reach. Took the picture and then let him go before someone got hurt.

Yes, FC you really should. It has pictures on the walls of famous people who eat there. I can't blame them either. They don't have a menu, but it is because people who eat there already know what they want. I can't seem to try anything else but the ribs. It is like why would I?
