Do you have any specs on the pit? Size, how old. Any info would help us weigh in.

As far as pricing, generally you want your cost of materials, labour and time to be 15-30% of the retail price. I know some times I forget to factor in time when I'm making something for someone food wise. Example would be ($350 on materials + 45 hours of work at $8.50/hr)/ 15%. (350+340)/.15= $4,600. Of course other things would factor in like quality of workmanship, quality of steel and the market. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Just like most other things, it's worth whatever you can get for it. It appears to be a 250 gallon tank? No warming box, single axle utility trailer, I would think you could advertise it for $2500.00 and find a buyer.
Just my 2 cents

Definitely! That's price of materials ($375)/.15. Basic cost control formula for a baseline for a mark up. Still a great affordable price & you make a nice profit.

Or $750/.30. The main thing is to never set your price to low. I use to think that 50/50 was great! Did some fund raisers, went to school, found out I was horribly low balling myself.

Well so far no calls. I wonder if I'm asking too much at $2600. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Advice is appreciated.

MAN, I feel for you brother. You are in a tight spot. I would hold the price for a little while yet to see what happens. Where are you advertising it?

im down here in west palm florida. im guessin before the 4th of July would have been a better "adverstising" time, but it wasnt finished yet! Anyway, im ganna give it a coupe weeks before I think of dropping price. The way I see it is I have about $800-$1000 invested, and 1 gazillion "my free time" hours invested. Its time to let her go, and build another. I really enjoy building these "tanks".

Post by smokinwelder » July 12th, 2013, 4:05 pm

Well I had a buyer for my smoker, so I thought. Craigslist guy out of state wanted to send me a company check with shipping cost included. He wanted me to deposit the check, then send shipping money to "shipper", him, and then I would have been responsible for the money gone once the check was discovered fraudulent. The bank verified the check as a fraudulent check. id like to :BDHorse: this guy. What a coward. Its amazing people cant follow the :rulz: . I am not too suprised as he didnt talk me down any, and put the money up front. He fedexed it overnight...lol. If it seems too good to be true..... oh, well, lesson learned. And still have the smoker, .

Was gonna check out your add for your smoker, couldn't find it. Make sure you haven't made typos on your listing, folks wont see your add when they are surfing the net shopping.

If it can't be smoked .... try frying it. It that don't work, it's probably best just left alone

I looked at your add SW, it looks fine. I know that sometimes like on the web "keywords" are a big deal as far as people finding items. When I looked at your add I wondered if you could use a phase like "hog cooker" because that cooker is set up just right for that and it being in south Florida. It looks like it is priced to sell to me. I think the buyer just hasn't seen it yet, hold on a bit it will be fine.

:yth: Looks like you have a more than fair price. Still not sure why I couldn't pull it up originally, maybe I was the one having typos!
