Best Way To Attach Inside Door Flange/Lip???

Post by Q-Dat » April 21st, 2015, 10:16 pm

On my tank build I want to have the doors sit flush with the tank which I know will require the lip to be welded on the inside. Is this normally welded from inside the tank? Or is it just tack welded from the outside and then ground smooth so that the doors will close?

I mostly see 1" x 1/8" strapping welded to the outer perimeter of the door, on the outside. Not inside the tank. Let about 1/2 of it hang off to hit the tank when it closes. Then you glue your seal to that lip.

People who have the flanges on the inside can either weld then through drilled holes or if the pipe/tank is big enough from the inside.

Drilled holes! That makes perfect sense! I dont think I would have thought of that! That is going to work!
