Run your numbers thru the pit calculator and it will give you all the dimensions. We call that one the gap....I believe it tells you the square inches of the opening.

The BP gap is the same size as the throat or up to 25% smaller than the throat. I make mine the same as the throat and haven't had any issues.

Is that the “throat”? Or is that the gap between firebox and CC

Well here is my finished smoker build. I’ve been cooking in it for 2 1/2 weeks working in small changes, adding forgotten features and learning the chambers and operation. I have the cooking temperatures nailed down to consistency and know how long it takes to bring up to temps, adjust, and how to adapt to what I’m cooking. My smoker drafts great and hold steady temps and with the help of my FireBoard Extreme, the finished cooking times, tenderness and temps are easily controlled! I’m proud to have built her and will have a name on her as soon as I cut one out!ImageImageImage

Cute little bugger! Looks like a winner. You done good! I'm curious...what did you come up with for a BP? Is it removable like you wanted?

That does look good. As for a name, because of the slenderness of the thing... "Thin Lizzie".

Looking at the one pic and seeing your shed in the background... I have a serious case of "shed envy". :D

The house looks to have at least a 3 car garage plus the detached garage, then in the other pic that "shed" is serious. Lots to be envious of there no doubt.

Sorry for not getting back sooner with you guys! The cooking has been great! I made my personal best pork butt and it was phenomenal! Answering some of the questions and curiosities. So the name I still need to do and still looking for a fit. The white shop in the background is where all the fabrication magic happens and a “mechanic’s Disney World” begins haha! The house in the other background is my dad & moms, they just built it last year. I’m truly blessed to have the means, space and tools at my disposal as my father and I build all kinds of stuff. If you ever get time, go check our Gray’s Motorsports page on FB. Back to the smoker, I’m really thanking everyone who pointed me in the right directions on ideas, suggestions and answered questions. This is an awesome page and I’m already looking to build a smoker for my receiver hitch!

Yes I ended up leaving it removable and it works really really well! The heat stays constant throughout the chamber and grease hasn’t been a problem. I’m able to place tinfoil on top of it to catch all runoff and drips

Just be careful of that. If your grease gets thru the foil and drips under the plate you could be in for a ruined cook.

10-4, I plan on adding a custom drip pan that’ll sit on top of the plate with an air gap
