Hello from Wisconsin

Post by Iron » May 7th, 2012, 9:21 am

Hello everyone, my name is Jason. I live in east central Wisconsin with my wife and 3 kids. I jumped in to southern style bbq all on my own; there are not too many rib joints around these parts. I started with a cheap brinkman upright...I remember my first smoke, I was watching this white/grey smoke just billow out I was thinking to myself “ oh boy those are going to be good” ha , until I opened up and saw black slabs that had the shape of a rack of ribs. Well I figured I needed help so I found a couple web sites and since then my cooking is much better. I up graded (or so I thought) to a Char griller side fire box from the local box store. That was fine for a while, but only lasted 3 years and I got sick of fixing, modifying the thing. That brings me to how I found this forum, my wife is a welder except she tig welds stainless stuff in a shop, she has had some schooling, but never was comfortable with mig welding, anyway I started looking and thinking and finally had a design I liked. With the help of a co-worker my wife and he went at welding me up a new smoker. They got the big stuff done using the tools at their shop, then brought the shell on a frame home to me, and I finished it… I am building a replica of mine for a local lady, and I hope to build more for other people around the area. Sure would be nice to make a living doing this, but we will see where the good Lord takes me.

Anyway, I hope to contribute and learn, I just love making things either from wood or steel…doesn’t matter to me.. i'll put a picture in here of my first real build

thanks,Jason

Glad you found us. Looks like you got the addiction! :)
Good luck with your plan of building and selling.

Have you told the wife, that she'll need to put in a few more hours welding. :D

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Glad you are here Iron, I myself have worked with a number of women welders and pipefitters. The good ones are generally really good sounds like you have a really good one. You will love this site just get it where you fit in, and that is all over this place.
