New from Maine, and going to build a smoker

Post by e-zlight » July 24th, 2012, 2:26 pm

Hey all, just doing research on building a smoker.

My plans have been to build a smoker out of a 250 gal propane tank, but i'll be damned if I can get my hands on a tank around here. :headwall:

Luckily, I have a 120gallon propane tank already, so I think we'll build a small one out of that, and build a big one when I can get my hands on one.

The plans for now, small trailer to hold the tank, reverse flow, even though it's small, off set firebox. I was planning a warmer for the big one. I'm undecided if I want one on the small one. We'll mount everything and go from there.

Tips/tricks/warnings always welcome. I've been lurking for a bit, but will still search posts and such for ideas.

Welcome e-zlight!

Start the 120 gallon as soon as possible.
You'll find the 250 just a soon as you're committed to the 120 - at least that's how my luck runs... :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D

Thanks for the welcome guys. Probably going to start and finish the build next month sometime. Planning on a weekend to complete it.

Jethro, I'm in biddeford, but will be moving to waterboro soon.

Hey, who can complain with 2 awesome smokers? :biggrillin:

Cool. I'm in Portland. Met a couple of guys in the area that I've been helping out @ local comps. If you ever want to "talk shop" or eat let me know and we can get together.
