Hello

Post by bodiedyota92 » November 24th, 2015, 8:53 am

I am new to this site, but very interested in building me a smoker... My old brinkmann has been good but time to move on. I have already learned a lot in just the few posts i have read through. Hopefully i can find me a tank and start a rf smoker soon. I have my own small fab shop, you know welders, torches grinders so on and so on... But my thing i use the most is my CNC plasma table.. So if any one ever needs custom parts, signs, art or anything else you can think of ill be glad to help. I really look forward to learning more and im sure i will ask alot of questions... THNAKS

Welcome! A plasma table sounds awesome. You are way ahead of where most of us start here. Good luck finding a tank and on your first build.

I'll add my hello and suggest the possibility of going square. There are several great looking NON tank smokers posted here. With your shop. Like Fishless Mickey said, you're ahead of places that some of us start at.

I know when I started 2.61 years ago as a complete neophyte, I kept reading about tanks, finding tanks, rolling tanks, Sherman tanks :D . Then as I read, read, and read some more ( there is a ton of information posted here) I started seeing so many ideas using only plate... I have built 5 smokers and only 1 was an 80 gallon round air compressor tank. AND, it wound up nearly square! I have another 80 gallon tank here but I seriously doubt I'll use it knowing how nice it is using sheet steel to build from.... Off the top of my head, search: Gizmo and Petesmeat....these guys did some beautiful square builds amongst many others.

Just something to think about. :welder: :welcome:

Welcome.....agree that tanks are overrated. Not sure I'd they really save any time or money in the long run and you are stuck with what it is. You have a plasma so I might be tempted to go pipe or plate and go nuts.

Have fun....
