Did you run the PitCalc?

Yessir!

I do have a question though.

If I turn the CC vertical how does that affect the stove pipe? And where do you place it?

You can put it anywhere and shorten it too if you want. But I personally wouldn't because you have to pretty much use only charcoal if you do. Unless of course you are willing to do what it takes to be able to burn sticks

Well, well. Look what I found. Here's a final rendering someone else has already put the time in.

Stack length does not need to be that long. Just use the opening size recommended by the PitCalc and make it any length that suits you.

The FB is pretty large as well. I would make it just big enough to handle your splits. Maybe 20"w x 18"h x 18"d?

My CC will be 24x24x48, firebox being be 20x20x24. Running through Pitcalc its recommending a 77cu" throat & some 30" or 480cu"

the PitCalc is for horizontal RF or offset cookers. In a vertical the CC acts as the chimney so all that's really needed is an exhaust. Verticals are also much more efficient and don't require the same amount of heat.

One thing about this type of vertical a great deal of the heat will be lost through the top of the FB which will allow you to burn small stick fires for a fuel source.

Good deal! I like efficient & practical.

Was thinking about adding an LP burner to the FB to aid stick/coal, guess I can save that for the beans.

A little further before heading to Chicago for 10 days to work. Man it's gonna be cold up there.

I take it you are using this flat bar because you have it already? I try to use material I already have too, sure makes for a lot of extra work, but it works.

Yessir, these two areas are the only places I didn't have sufficient material to complete with plate. Considering no one is going to see it, I'm ok with that. Almost used channel but decided against due to wasps.

I've also decided it will be easier to build the door to cook chamber on opposite side of firebox, less cutting/welding.

Picked these up on sale from Harbor Freight, looks like they'll make good door handles & latches as well as a little character.

Finally the sun has shown enough down here I could get caught up on the must do's and finally whittled down the list & got some progress on the cook chamber!!

Great start. Good to see parts getting back together.

Just a safety concern.....welding on grass can be a bad idea. I am sure you have a garden hose and a fire extinguisher handy tho. :PBox:
