Hi From MO

Post by RDRASH » March 4th, 2012, 2:19 am

Well just joined lots of good info on here, you're guys rigs are pretty impressive. Have built a few small smokers in the past, but it has come time to go large scale. Currently have a 500 gal propane tank and 20 ft boat trailer. Any help or do's and don't will be welcomed. Thanks Phil

:welcome: Phil! Glad you found us.
The guys on here are very eager to help! What are you wanting to build, an offset, R/F, or something else? The more info the better. You have the hard parts, now you just need the plan.

Post some pics as you go, this is a very visual crowd. :rulz:

Where you at in MO?

As I said welcome, and now the addiction begins! Enjoy!

... a thing of beauty... :kewl:

just curious - can you run across the side rails with square tube and just create a flat floor on a boat trailer and end up with the correct strength? :-B

Great finds Phil, those should work well for you. Now just get out the checkbook and let er eat! I see you already have your assistant doing some research on the ol puter.

Just turn the tank over when you are ready to dump the water. Most will come out and what is left you can get to once you make a cut.

weeeellll, I use my forklift to roll the tank....
But in all seriousness, you can just use a 4-1/2" cutting wheel to make the first cut. i make several. if you make them in the endbell you can just weld them shut and hit them with the flap disk to make them perty again.
NOW, DO NOT drain that tank in town! matter of fact, don't fill it in town either! you will have the fire dept and the police maybe even the gas company at your door in moments! A guy got real mad at me for not telling him that one time LOL. make sure and do it outta town :kewl:
Bein from that part of mizzourah you are real close to smoker tom and a couple other guy's that can help ya if you need it. also, run some angle across those cross members and you'll be fine. prolly use 2x3" angle 1/4" thick would be plenty.

Yeah this is the part I am worried about, what to do with 500 gallons of stinkin water. Well maybe the inert gas is a better way to go and then just burn the tank out.

Welcome to the site Phil, glad you found us and I am sure we can fix ya right up.

Now, which is it, Angle or Tubing????? LMAO

And it seems to me that I once saw DC color in a picture. Sorry brother I couldnt resist. You can pay me back next saterday.

Phil, is the tank still sealed up??
Cause Franks right on track with sayin your gonna stink up the whole neighborhood.

All I did was dump a bucket of BBQ sink water that was months old and it pissed off the neighbors for weeks.

If theres something I can help out with send me a PM since I havent been checking in every day. I'm right over by Bass Pro on 291.

Phil the lesson here is that when you dump it - do it over at smokertoms - he's already pissed off the neighbors so no harm - no foul

I know all about pissin off the neighbors, I moved in five years ago and every year I tear up something. It's bad when you build a shop in a pretty nice neighbor hood and stay up all hours making noise, or the concrete truck rips you're neighbors sprinkler system out of the groung.
