Greetings from El Salvador

Post by gijsveltman » September 12th, 2017, 5:25 pm

Hello everyone, thank you for accepting me to this forum! I am a huge bbq enthusiast, especially Texas-style bbq. I live down in El Salvador, and I've been wanting to get a big smoker for a while now. All I've got is two Weber Kettles and an old, recently-dead Brinkmann offset, which was terrible. Shipping from the US to the tropics is prohibitively expensive (you can easily double the cost of the smoker) , from freight to taxes and all related expenses. Therefore, I'm going to try my hand at building a smoker from a 60 gallon propane tank I bought a few days ago. I'm going to build a standard offset, not a reverse flow.

I have no experience doing this type of work (I work in insurance!), but will be having help from very talented people. I look forward to share my progress with you and get feedback, as well as some support now and then, which I'll surely need!

Gijs

Welcome to the crew.

Learning generally boils down to "Repetition or the avoidance of pain", some people learn by doing, some by watching and some just have to pee on the electric fence.

Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. Henry Ford

:welcome: don't be afraid to ask question & definitely run the numbers through the pit calc & builder calcs at the top of the page. Can't wait to see your progress, I'm sure that tank will make a sweet unit. :kewl:
