Hey thanks all, Got the two tanks out of the truck today and need to get out of trailer tomorrow, Sunday, plan to fill one with water and soap. they have had the valves and fittings out of them for a few weeks now. should be ready to cut, or send satellite to orbit, either way it will be exciting. will start taking pics then, thanks again for responses and the welcome...... read alot on the site already and you all do some awesome.

no offence Dauyne, your post just brought it to mind, the tanks with the valves taken out, in my way of thinking, are more dangerous than just waiting till you are going to fill them with soapy water, just saying but worth talking about!

If you take the valves out, air can then enter the tank, making it an explosive mix, then all you need is a spark and whooska!, ,,,,,,,,,,, whats stopping it happening?

Howdy, Thanks for the advice Macca, the tanks had been open for a few weeks before i got them, the propane place takes them out when they get them so they can scrap them. Filled one with water today and cut the end off. first time for propane tank lol, have cut and modified many gas tanks, but newbie to propane tanks, got some pics and will figure how to get them on here  , its that time now, So how much distortion should i expect cutting the door, am using plasma cutter for it. was gonna do some hinging first though,

I filled it with water then cut it, but it had been sitting a few weeks open before i got it............ I was reading a bit about the baffle plate and the air and heat movement, has anyone welded little flutes, not the musical type, to bottom of the plate to help direct heat, was thinking about that a bit. i am building a 2x4 and a half cooking chamber, havent quite thought this all out yet, thought that would be good size for feeding the neighbors and family. How about a warmer on top of fb, not too needed for personal smoking ? or will it be handy, have never used one. i need to get going on this more. mouth watering thinking of pork shoulder and ribs....... thanks dcman and maccas66 :-bd ,

I don't know about fluting the plates....not sure its really necessary......as far as the warming cabinet....it never hurts...and you can always crank up the heat and make biscuits!!!! Was the tank open and sitting in your possession or somebody else's?

I would say as long as the valve was out and just sitting there open....that's okay....as long as it was on the other guys location....which it was.... :D
