Hi from Texas Hill Country!

Post by serenityhill » June 28th, 2012, 3:23 pm

I go by serenityhill-- it's the name of my home. I'm a fiftysomething woman who's been fixing things since I was first able to hold a screwdriver, and lots of curiosity with a glug of determination added.

I've been using smokers and other grills for many moons, including my current one, built by my dad about 30 years ago. I'm about to send that one to my sister, whose son-in-law will use it with TLC. He also welds, and can maintain it.

I landed on this forum when looking for ideas on building a vertical smoker from a 55-gallon barrel (drum?). I got two for storing rainwater but I don't like the rustiness of the water. I want to take some ideas from the original Brinkmann vertical, wrapped into a single unit with separate cooking and fire tending doors.

I have hand tools, an electric drill, a sawzall and a jigsaw. And a brain.

The adventure begins... :-h

I do like the cabinet builds. sounds like you want a Backwoods style smoker. That will be a great build to watch!

Welcome serentyhill - glad to have you - maybe you can knock a few of the rough edges off this place! :)
Check out smoker mods section for Edna's brain surgery - a rough idea of a cabinet style that's also been a pellet drive in the past - might catch some ideas... :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)
