Hello from Western NY

Post by berryman » November 12th, 2012, 7:21 pm

Just found and joined this forum and WOW,so much great information. I just started smoking last spring kind of by accident. My Mom gave me a brinkmann sportsman my stepfather bought new and had never used, I was hooked but it didn't take me long to learn I wanted something much better and more controllable. I've been a truck and heavy equipment mechanic for over 35 years and do a lot of welding and fab. I've built a lot of things over the years including race cars, flat bed trailers, wood stoves and spitters and all kinds of specialized farm equipment. So building is the first thing I thought about (and all I've been thinking about since I picked up a tank last week) I was real happy to find this forum before I got started so I can build it right.
My other hobbies are beer making, my restored Harley and Jeep, antique tractors, hunting and I own a small fruit and vegetable farm.

You got a great list of hobbies there. And they all work with smoking stuff, especially the beer! :D

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

The beer making and meat smoking work real well together.
The tank is a air tank off of a service truck. This being my first smoker build, I'm not going real huge, but will try to make it efficient then try to hone my cooking skills.
Edit: it will be R/F and I will take pics.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and I think I got the pic posting figured out, but not much to see yet. As I said it will be a small one compared to all the great builds I see on here. I love building stuff and just want to get my feet wet on this one and learn how to cook better, then who Knows what I might decide. What a great forum you all have here.

The tank really isn't banged up like it may look in the first pic.

From the looks of that tank it doesn't owe it's last owner a thing!
But it sure looks to be in good shape judging from the inside wall... :kewl:
