Hi all! This is my first post on the site and I thought I'd post a little about myself. I'm a student at A&M and just moved into my own place so I thought I would build a smoker to christen the new house. I've been around BBQ and meat smoking from an early age and now want to start doing it more on my own. If y'all have any general tips or advice for building my first smoker I am all ears.

I'm just gonna give a brief description of the materials I have at hand and my basic plans. I have access to 6 or so feet of 3/8" wall culvert pipe thats 18" in diameter. I was planning on a 32-36" long main cooking chamber and a 16-20" firebox. I found the bbq pit dimension calculator from lurking and have been playing around with some of the dimensions. I also have access to a full shop with all three types of welders and all other equipment so I am planning on doing most of the work myself.

If y'all have any tips for the more detailed aspects of the design and manufacturing of the smoker, they would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks ahead of time!

Welcome! My brother is an Aggie and learned to smoke there and got me hooked more than 30 years ago.

Read builds like the one you're planning and just ask away!

Welcome to the crew! Looks like you're planning an offset, think about adding an baffle plate to get an reverse flow from that same style and shape you will be glad you did.
