Long Time, First Time

Post by WITWAG » April 5th, 2016, 12:03 pm

Hi All,
I'm Jeff. bbq teammate and I have been competing since 2008 and cooking on an off-set since 2011. I decided I wanted a new cooker this off-season and when I looked at the size I wanted and cost I figured we'd just learn how to weld and do it ourselves..since I read Franklin's book (I'm an expert now) I thought how hard can it be?!?
Most of the way through our build of an off-set that is part Jambo, Franklin, and Peoria. Could not have done it without the information available on this site and the youtube channel. I will say I think we are about 3 weeks away from having fire in this bad boy and full disclosure I thought that 2 months ago as well. I do think we are on the right track. Before starting this we had no clue how to weld or design anything. However we took our time, decided that we would not allow time to force us to cut corners. Every aspect of it was well thought out and bounced against our 8 years of comp cooks and what we think we want to do in the future. I'm sure I'll have some questions in the future but wanted to use this thread to introduce myself and say thanks. Since this pic we have cook chamber doors and a boiler style FB door.

Welcome!

I like the not cutting corners. They always bite ya back at some point.

Thanks guys. I'll probably start a build thread and show some progress pictures along with some questions. We are putting in some unique features that I've never seen on a cooker so I'm curious about some of the feedback.
