36" x 72"x 3/8th rolled pipe.

Post by Fishman3856 » May 11th, 2017, 9:04 am

Hello everyone. My name is Jason as I am new to this site. I am looking for some advice on what is the best design for my piece of pipe. I currently have a 36" diameter pipe that is 6' long that has 1/2" end caps that is already welded on. This is from a friend that started on it and decided it was going to be to big for what he had in mind so therefore it was given to me. If this was given to you what would you do with it? What style cooker would be ideal for this size pipe? All advice is greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing the feedback and starting this project.

I'd go a reverse flow for sure, just plug the numbers in the pit calc at the top of the page & mess around with the fire box sizes till you get about 105-110% & you're away. Then decide what shape you want the throat(FB to CC opening) & go to the builder calcs, again at the top, or in Pete Mazz's sig line, & work out your dims for that. The rest is up to you, well that & hard work burning some wire of course. Ask as many questions as you want, cause it's better to ask questions & get it right now than do it wrong & try to fix it when it's finished. :kewl:

Welcome aboard!! That'll make one heck of a smoker that's for sure. I also would go offset reverse flow, square FB/ WC with baffles between them. If you went with 1 door you could get a decent size hog in there if you ever wanted to.

Welcome to the crew!

I agree that this size pipe has many options. I would agree with BigT and FC then I would square the doors like the crew at

http://www.shirleyfabrication.com/

This is a website that uses these same options and they're long time members of this forum. I would recommend you brows their site for pictures of these squared doors they call the cabinet doors.

:welcome:

Welcome aboard Jason.
Browse around the site and get some ideas.
Personally I'm kinda partial to reverse flows due to the consistent temps from one end to the other.
Some folks like standard offsets because the temps are not the same on both ends allowing them to cook at 2 different temps at the same time.
But when its all said and done, its like forty_creek said, its all about what YOU want.

Yer gonna like what we've been smokin'.
