Getting a little further along on this little guy, I never realized how time consuming it would be but still truckin along...its horrible that I work all day building quarter million dollar shape cutters but don't even own my own plasma or oxy torch ;)

We use 1" plate to test with, might be a bit overkill ;)

Question for those who might know, I'm building this little guy to be a RF, my question is how much of a "gap" do I leave between the baffle plate and end of chamber? Does that make sense? Lol I've got 1/4" plate to use for a plate but I have no clue how "long" to make it

From where I'm sitting I'd say about 2 and a half inch gap ought to do it.... course I've been drinking this evening so that's kinda rough but that's how we do it up here and all our "Q" gets done EVENTUALLY...
just trying to be helpful... :)

Note: All this advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Brewery, That question makes perfect sense. Make your gap the same size or a little more as the opening from the firebox to your cooking chamber, I assume that you that you went by the pit calculator on your build? :-)

Keep in mind the calculator you saw is somewhat generic....you should contact Frank....so he can set you on the correct path to freedom... :-c

#-o I would like to apologize for my last post regarding the baffle gap and offer a couple observations:

1) I'm not drinking this evening - but I am toying with the idea.
2) Edgar is at his best when the baffle gap is around 70% of the transfer opening (firebox to cook chamber)
... 'course he's a center feed and that could have something to do with it.
3) An adjustable gap on the baffle is a wonderful thing...
4) #3 allows you to put another really cool control on your smoker to explain to all the onlookers.

Just my 2 cents worth...

Ha ha I second the pondering drinking.
And I really like the idea of the adjustable baffle... Something new to start thinking about ;)

Come to think of it - Frank showed an adjustable baffle plate on here somewhere on one of his builds - I think it was a screw-drive - simple and good looking... :)

Don't dispair - hinges aren't like girlfriends - they usually don't look as bad as you thought the next morning... and much more easily modified... :D

=)) you crack me up. Rick!

Your hinge will come along. Give it a day or two, and it will be the best idea you had. ;)

After a little design change the hinges are working and looking much better... Not sure if the riders will stay but I'm an OSU fan so I'm playing with the idea of including something along these lines
