I can attest to the big one. It's fantastic. Holds temp like a modern day kitchen oven, the big GF can reach 16 hours and more on a full coal chute so I'm sure you'll do at least 10-12 and I don't use the pid controller I have for smooth and steady temperature maintenance BECAUSE... I have found it does not need it. I can maintain within 2-3 degrees over a 10 hour time frame once up to temp with the ball valve about 1/2 closed. There's a few minis being built so I guess we'll be seeing results posted soon.

I got all the skin tacked on. Then realized I forgot to put a reinforcement bar in for the striker side of the latch. So I had to remove the panel with the air intake and install the bar. Well I can always use the welding practice, but it's annoying having to redo your own work. Here are some more pictures.

Getting excited over here. I welded the CC door on, and she swings perfectly. I'm happy as hell over here. She's starting to look like a smoker. Here some pictures.

That is looking really good. Not long now that you'll be posting Q view......I've found in using the big GF, I'm using the top 3 cooking racks so I'm not bending down as much when going through the cooking process. I'm thinking that I may build a removable stand to raise the unit up about 24" up. Of course it would need to be wider at the base to prevent tipping

Thanks guys. I too, am planning on making a stand to make it taller. In the mean time I'm going to build it with the standard wheels mounted like in the plans. When the stand is finished I will remount the wheels to the stand, and bolt the smoker to the stand where the wheels were previously mounted. The stand will be similar to Tim Schmidt's.

Well my son had designed a branding iron for some cutting boards he is making. I modified it and cut it out of some 1/4" steel, and tacked it to the front of the smoker. My father, myself, and my son all have the same initials, so it will be his when I'm gone. It should look great after it's all powder coated with a hammer finish.

I have to now start welding up all the corners and edges. This seems like it will take forever. Here is a picture of it mocked up with all of its hardware in place. What gauge steel is everyone using for the smoke stack damper? 1/4" seems like over kill to me.

From what I understand that damper is there mainly to block rain from getting in and you run it wide open while cooking. I plan on making a rain deflector to go over mine while in use and a cap for storage.

The smoker is almost done. I just have to fabricate the handle for the left side and weld in the drip rails inside. Then prep it for powder coating. I can't wait to start smoking meat!!!!!!

I've really liked having the use of my buddies CNC plasma cutter. It has really allowed me to personalize my smoker. I also plan on making custom handles for the ball valves, so they match the rest of the handles on the smoker. And yes, it has been suggested by some of my friends that I may be having TOO much fun with the CNC.

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement from the entire forum. It has helped greatly.

Well I got the D-rings on and the drip rails. Plus I finished up the cleavers handle today. And now I have to send it out for powder coating.
