I got a very small amount of work done today. I was cutting some 1/4" plate so I went ahead and cut out 4 of the cook shelves. Here is a preliminary pic:

Image

I got the pipe for the air indeed welded in as well.

Drip ledges cut and bent, bottom panel cut. Next work day will show lots of results. I hope to have the drip ledges installed, the firebox and the chimney installed, and the bottom insulated and buttoned up.

I was just curious if the errors were in the original plans. If they were we of course would want to make the needed changes asap. Looking good on the build.

No. The errors were my mistakes. Not in the plans.

Got some more work done this weekend.

Firebox mounted - btw - maybe I missed it but this thing cannot be installed if the chimney is welded to the firebox and the transfer tube is welded as well. I welded in the firebox first, then slid the chimney in place and welded it in. I had to weld the back seam, the one facing the cook chamber a little bit at a time with a bent welding rod. Only about 3 inches of clearance back there.

Got insulation mounted and the bottom panel tacked in place. I couldn't help sliding the shelves in there for the pic.ImageImage

Looking awesome Latech15. Can you post a picture of outside of the firebox where the air intake pipe comes out, please. Love the cooking grates. Your insulation on the sides, is it 1 1/2" or 2" thick ?

2" insulation. I'll have to grab some pics later in the week of the intake. It is just a hole in the ash box with a 4" pipe to an elbow and a 6" piece. I just got lucky on those lengths. They are what the supply place had. I just eyeballed the hole position and cut it with a hand torch. Forgot about it when I was drawing the parts for the plasma table.

Looks amazing. The grates are my favorite. I would also like to see more on your intake pipe.

Got some more time today to work on the smoker. The guys in the shop took the time to point out all my poor welding last week. When I let them know that they would be missing out on the first test cook, they changed their tune. One even left me a note!

Image

All the insulation in, exterior sheets on and ground down. I went through 4 flap disks until I got the 7.5 hp grinder out. Things went much quicker after that.

Sorry for the long delay in reporting my progress. I'm almost there. Here are a few pics from today's efforts.

It is cookable at this point, but I still need to. Hold my pans for the drippings in the bottom of the cooking chamber and one for the ash chamber. I want to redo my fire grate, and add a shelf to the left side. I also have to install the damper for the top stack. I haven't figured out exactly what I am going to do up there. It I was thinking about cutting out a little pig and welding it on.

Oh yeah. Door handles too. And the supports for the top sides of the grate so they don't tip out.

There always seems to be one more thing to do to it. But it is so nice between the mods. Great work
