Stumps Clone build by Bo

Post by AZ_Smokin' » October 25th, 2016, 11:52 pm

Hey all!

Thought I would share my build with you guys! Just finished a Stumps GF clone. I'm running a cyberQ BBQ Buru on it and it turned out awesome! I would love to answer any questions you might have in hope to help out you or others on your build.

I will try to add pics in groups and put a little description on them as I go.

So far I have smoked: Brisket, Pork Butts, Chicken Whole and parts, Jalepeno Poppers, Broccoli, Corn, Fatties, Spare and baby back pork ribs and beef ribs.

Enjoy!

First thing I built was the Chute, Fire box and ash box assembly.

Then the skins...

I used 10 gauge plate for the siding. Probably a little overkill but I didn't want to have to use alot of bracing so I could fully insulate the cooking chamber.

Then the insulation:

I used 1.5 inch 1200 deg. F mineral wool.

Here is the door. It really came out great and the way I offset the hinges allows for 180 deg opening!

For the door seals on all three doors I used 5/8" tadpole fiberglass seals and it is held in place with 1/8" by 1.5" aluminum strap. I used self tapping SS screws to hold it all in place.

I seasoned it and ran it a couple times before welding everything off and adding some handles. Everything ran great so no major changes were needed!

Nice build and very nice beads... something I aspire to sometime in the future... nice beads that is.
Presumably the space under the door is where you put the pan to catch the grease etc? Or did I miss something?

All round a very nice and well finished unit.

Thanks ajfoxy!!

Pertaining to the drip pan. If you look close in the picture with all the Pork Butts you can see the drip trey at the very bottom of the cooking chamber. I welded strap all around the walls to deflect any drippings into the trey. Also I left the transfer tube about 1.5 inches above the bottom of the cooking chamber so I could slide the trey in underneath it. By doing this it allowed for the bottom exterior storage area. Yes it is a perfect fit for the shelves and whatever else.

Well I have always dabbled with welding but this is only my second smoker I've build. First gravity feed though. MY first was a simple verticle that used a burner to heat a hot plate that I would put wood chunks on. Worked good.
