Looks damn good! I'm looking at building one similar myself but want to compare pricing to build from scratch vs starting with an oven or something for the cabinet. Do you have a rough idea on material costs?

I would say I put about $1200 total in it as it sits. That includes the CyberQ.

I did however use 1/8 plate through out as others uses much thinner plate. I also used 1/8 inch 1-1/2" Sq tube. Thinking you can easily cut on cost by using thinner wall tube. Personally I would still use the 1/8 inch plate as I have seen the issues others have had with warpage when using thinner plate.

Still a chunk of money but a huge savings over buying one!

I would use 1/8" too, it will make it heavier but I won't have to do it again!

Sweet! Thanks for the info. And awesome pics. I'm sure I will have lots of questions as I start my build. I just spent way to long figuring out how to make all my cuts fit on 4x8 sheets. I know I could do a lot of math to figure out how much more 1/8th" weighs vs 14ga. You mentioned you needed a tractor to stand it up? How much you think your total weight is? I was planning on 14ga tube and skins.

I was guessing mine is somewhere around 700 pounds or so. Just going by raw material weight.

Yes the chute is 8 inches square. The only time I had an issue is when I tried some lump mesquite charcoal. It was way too big of pieces and I made sure to watch it because I was worried about it. The chunks we small logs 2.5 inches in diameter and about 6 inches long.

Other than that using Royal Oak Lump and kingsford both mixed with wood chunks have had zero problems.

The recovery time for mine is very minimal. Just to open and mop or spritz I would say there is less than a minute. Last smoke I did I wrapped at 8 hours. Had the door open to pul out 4 butts at a time and put in a pan. Did this 3 times and when I was all done it took about 5 minutes to recover fully. I am pretty happy with it.

I did however go with the 25 CFM fan and not the 10 CFM as I wanted to get up to temp quick and has minimal recovery times.

I think that coupled with fully insulating and using 1/8" plate to help hold heat helps a ton.

As Squiggle said. Buy the plans and you can't go wrong with dimensions. Seriously well worth the money.

Trust me, I'm a guy who scales images to figure out dimensions and never buys plans for anythng. Although a smoker seems like a box that gets hot and cooks meat there is much more to it, throwing material cost aside,building one of these things takes time that I'm sure for all of us, you included can be hard to come by. I purchased the plans for two reasons, first reason being that I wanted a tried and proven design and second reason being I realize the amount of effort and heartache that goes into designing something and felt those responsible should be rewarded monetarily for it. Just my two cents

A couple of things to know about buying these plans,
1. they come with customer support
2. the money goes to keeping this site up and free
3. the money also goes to 2 Gatherings per year, of which the next one is in April

I could go on, but I guess you get the point.
