2" Npt pipe for mini build

Post by JPIII » October 20th, 2017, 1:44 am

Hey guys, building my first Mini. Where is a good place to source the 2" npt pipe and couplers needed for the air intake? What length pipe did everyone use? I'm in Atlanta area if anyone knows somewhere local.

Thanks,

Jack

Local plumbing supply ought to have them. Can't help on size.

Looks great!!!
I recommend measure from the hole in the ash box to the outside of the frame using a straight edge across the frame for reference. then add 2 to 3 inches.

I used this one when I did mine or you can go to a plumbing store like some else said. I forgot what the measurement was but I would definitely just have the threaded portion sticking out plus an 1in at the most and just remember the skin thickness. When I did mine I did about 3" plus the threaded portion and it is a bit too much especially when moving thru gates. Also, you should have left that corner leg on the frame out to make it easier to install the firebox with the intake pipe already welded on. I did the same thing and I just cut and re-welded back.

Local pipe supply as mentioned should have what you need, if you intend to weld a coupling to the ash box be sure you get a steel coupling and not a malleable iron coupling.

Typically a 2" nipple will make up ( thread into ) a valve, coupling or fitting around 1/2" so once you establish the desired distance between the face of valve to the face of the coupling add 1" (1/2" make up on each end X 2) and this should be the length of nipple needed.

Thanks guys I was able to source everything on amazon. Waiting on a few additional pieces of metal that were left out of original order and I should be able to get rocking again.

Weldun,
I don’t know if I ever mentioned it but your welds look great on your mini.
Just saying I noticed.

Thanks bud, Its hard to beat them Vintage Millermatic 200's, if your joint design is right and the machine is set right they almost weld by themselves.
