OK, it's finally off the bench. A few details to do on the main unit and I can paint it. Then shelves and ash tray. Then BBQ.

Just curious as to Why the temp guage is close to the outer wall and not centered in the middle of cook chamber...

I wanted the temp gauge at that height (just above the bottom shelf), but centered on the door would interfere with the slam latch. Higher on the door would interfere with the design I want to paint on it. I'm also going to have my remote digital temp probe set up, so I almost just left the door gauge off, but since I had it already...

Closer still... Need shelves and ash tray and lettering, otherwise it's ready to cook. First I need to clean up the giant mess in the shop. I'm SO glad to have it out of there.

Great build....be proud of that.

We understand what it means to clean the shop....somehow it’s a necessary evil of a project.

Like the color, the shop cleaning never stops and the cleaning pace depends on the next project!

Now that it done and out in the sun, I like the color too. When I painted it, the color looked too pinkish/purple, but it dried out to a decent dark red. Should work with the purple/yellow/orange I'm planning for the lettering.

So, all the fabrication is done. Shelves are done, ash catcher is done. I'm stuck waiting on the paint, which should be delivered tomorrow. Nothing special on the shelved, just cut, grind, weld. I'm happy with the ash catcher, the handle works well and there were only four little seams at the corners to weld up. Nice and tidy.

Eager to cook something, but I'm not sure what... Maybe beef ribs. The last time I had to do them on the webber kettle because my Traeger died (moment of silence for the poor pellet smoker, I cooked almost year round on that for probably 8 years, at least 4 or 5 nights a week.)

The ash pan came out very nice.
Are you going to put a drip strip on the door? Having run the double pan for a while I think it is very useful to stop the grease etc dribbling down the door and over your door gasket.
