Gravity feed- My build so far...

Post by Nagaburns » March 8th, 2013, 5:10 pm

I started it last Saturday...

And with the best laid plans I only got this far because I ran out of gas #-o

Anyway, today it looks like this...

No work will be done on it this weekend, my steel wasn't ordered in time from the stockholder :oopssign: Not to worry though, it gives me another week to change my plans 11 times =))

All the best,

Lee

Ha Ha, you crack me up =))

It's on a table which makes it look a lot bigger than it is in real life, 1200mm or 47 1/4 inches in old money.

:LG:

Your making some nice cuts, I think your going to do a very nice job on this. I'll be watching closely these style cookers really interest me. So what sort of fan system are you going to use a Digi-Q or what? Or do you think you will need one?

Rodcrafter I'll be using my homemade blower when I've made the adapter to fit on the ballvalve (note to self, add ball valve adapter to enormous list of stuff to do for smoker)

Of course now I want more detail on that. It looks great, so what size fan does it drive, and is it variable speed?

Hi Guys

It's been a while and the project has had to take a back seat due to real life taking over and bursting the bubble of BBQ nirvana. Anyhow, I managed to get a bit done last weekend and the pics are below-

I'm going to try and get a few hours in later on today.

Rick you are forgetting that I'm in the UK and get to experience the joys of today before you do in the US :-bd and it's now later on in my today and I've not done any work on the build.
Never mind, it's beer o' clock now and I'll leave the welding for another day

All the best,

Lee

So I did a bit more welding this weekend and here are the pics...

I decided that before I started this build that I would save a bit of cash by doing as much of the cutting, bending and forming as I could. This has kind of backfired because it's blown the build time off the scale and I'm getting miffed now that I'm not cooking on it yet (while writing that last sentence it just occured to me that my miffedness might be a natural part of the pit building process and that other builders of pits might suffer the same symptoms?)

I'm also kinda worried that my wheels won't take the weight, they are individually rated at 135kg but the clone is getting heavier every time I look at it :-ss

All the best,

Lee

I hear you on Miffed I had all of my parts cut and bent to size when I ordered the steel but I seem to behitting major road blocks at every aspect of the build. You will get there just keep banging away.
The wheels might be light. I used 800 lb wheels and worry about longevity my clone is pushing a 1000 lbs when it will be completedmaybe more. They are about 10 tall wheels you can see them in my clone build.

Your smoker is looking good !

It is coming along nicely. Although the pace may not be as you thought it will get there. I think we all suffer that same problem at some point.
I think I would go for a heavier rated wheel. FWIW. :LG:

Looks great!!
I enjoy the building process so I don't get those symptoms unless I'm under a deadline lol....
The anticipation of seeing the thin blue smoke rollin out the stack does affect us all tho

Thanks Guys, visiting here is like therapy ( :help: )

DCMan the exhaust stack has been a challenge and I still haven't figured out how I'm going to get the skin around the outside of it yet. One thing I do know is that the chimney will be done differently next build.....

Does anyone know where is the best place to put the holes for temp probes and where the best location is inside the cooking area for the probe that is going to monitor the pit temp?

All the best,

Lee
