Welduns mini build

Post by Weldun » March 15th, 2016, 8:44 pm

I wanted to start a thread that refers to my build rather than my junk pile, so apologies for possibly duplicating some pics that may have been posted in another thread but if I've learned one thing here I've learned "no pics didn't happen".
So far I haven't deviated from the plans much other than the fire grate and I want to make my throat grating bolt in so if the heat takes its toll on it I can easily replace it, I also offset the upper and lower frame rail outward on the door side which will eliminate the need to skin the door perimeter, in addition to the before mentioned I found some small 1-1/2" c-channel that I will utilize for my cooking rack slides. My sheeting and angle should be in tomorrow so I can move on to the next step.

For those that have built a mini GF ,is the condensate drip from the stack a big enough issue that I should incorporate a stack drain or is this problem limited to cold weather smoking?

I'm interested to know that as well, been thinking about that a lot. Hopefully the stack is short enough for condensation to not be a problem. :kewl:

I haven't noticed any drippings since the weather has warmed up.

I wouldn't think the stack is long enough to be a problem on those rigs.

Well due to work I had sacrifice some of my smoker building time today but I did manage to get my cook chamber tacked up and my cooking rack slides welded in on one side.

I can certainly relate, for months while I was gathering material I kept seeing post of several beautiful mini builds which made not working on mine even more painful. hang in there bud, before you know it you'll be busy building yours.

Thanks Rodcrafter

Well despite the smoker gremlins sabotaging our clothes dryer today, which in turn ate up two hours of my precious smoker building time determining the gas valve coil was bad, I managed to press on and get the cook chamber welded out and not without a tac or two popping , installed the charcoal chute/ firebox assembly and got one rack built just to see how it'll look. Insulation should be here tomorrow , time to start covering this girl up.

Don't you just hate when life gets in the way of shop time?

You did good, by the way. I know the first thought was to tell the mrs you were too busy to fix the dryer! We admire you.

I would be on the couch.....again.

I had to figure out a way to get this thing off the saw horses and onto the floor, got the base and bottom panel on and now it's time to skin the rest.
I promise when I get done with this project I'll learn how to post pics that aren't sideways and upside down, technology and I just don't get along.....sorry
