PITMAKER CLONE WHAT DO YOU THINK

Post by huntin30 » November 6th, 2018, 5:11 pm

So here is a basic front view of what I plan to build.
I hope to get some opinions good or bad to help me out.
1- is the fire box too big
2- 2.00 thick insulation too much
3- 11 ga for panels overkill
4- how deep should water pan be 2.00 deep good ?
5- should charcoal basket be as big as fire box or smaller ok ?
Thanks

Sorry you have notten gotten any replies on this.

—-can’t help with the firebox size...sorry, I just don’t know

—-2 inch insulation is pretty standard.

—-11 g would be appropriate for inside the firebox but overkill for the rest of it. Won’t hurt, just don’t need that thick if you are going to insulate it.

—-if you are going to run a water pan, the key is to make sure it will hold enough water for your entire cook. Adding cold water during a cook could cause controll issues. I would want to start a cook with about 3-4 quarts of water.

—-I would make charcoal basket as big as possible. You can always fill it half way For a short cook but you can’t over-fill a small one for a long cook.

Thanks Dirtytires,
The firebox will be lined with 3/16 thick was on print not on question list.
I think I'm going in right direction may shorten firebox a little, seems like
offsets are popular here that can be next build but, thanks for input!

Looks good to me, it's how i went with mine. Mine is larger, but still all about the same measurements as far as the false wall off the back wall @2" my channels down the side wall going into the stack is 1×8 only difference for the most part like i said is size. Mine is 58×33.5×30 however with casters and stack its more like 74in tall at top of stack

I did make my firebox larger as well. Mine i actually do a lot of all wood cooks, so to allow the wood to burn right it had to be somewhat larger, and it still works just fine with charcoal as well. The firebox area is 3/16 as well, the baffle plate if you want to call it that right above firebox is 1/4 in and my false wall is 3/16. Cooking chamber is 12 gauge and outside skin is 14 gauge with a 1.25 drain valve and 2.0 intake ball valve

How much charcoal does it burn per hour?

Thanks Gotcha929 I ordered my upright tubing a little longer so if I want to go taller in the firebox I can . If that was a pic you sent I couldn't open it.Should be starting the build this week how tall is your firebox and all work well I asume with your build good air flow ? I keep going back and forth on the chimney may put 2 in instead of one just a different look but, who knows when I start building thanks for the reply
